Jorge Moll is Advancing Research, Education and Healthcare in Brazil

Jorge Moll of Rio de Janeiro, president-director and senior researcher of Brazil’s D’Or Institute of Research and Education (IDOR), director of the Cognitive & Behavioral Neuroscience Unit (CBNU) and Neuroinformatics Workgroup, says his life’s passion is to assist those whose quality of life has been effected by various medical conditions.

When asked what inspired him to found the D’Or Institute of Research and Education, Moll said, “I have always had a dream and passion to cultivate world-class research, education and healthcare in my home country.”

Currently, Moll is interested in such topics as artificial intelligence, cognitive systems, “how machines and brains can work together,” as well as new developments in regenerative medicine and gene therapy.

Μοll’s qualifications include an MD in Neuroscience from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and a Ph.D. in Experimental Pathophysiology from São Paulo University. According to his LinkedIn account, Moll was the recipient of the Research Fellow NIH award (2004-2007) and the Visiting Scholar Award, Stanford Neuroscience Institute, Stanford University (2015). He was elected affiliate member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences (2008) and was elected Governor’s Board Member of the International Neuroethics Society (2012-13).

As a businessman, Moll believes that “the best way to be productive is to be transparent, open, and skillful.” He values the input of students, experts in his field and entrepreneurs, saying, “I believe it is fundamental to have a free exchange of ideas and collaboration.”

Furthermore, Moll gives the following advice to those in business: “Do not hold on to ideas and plans for too long. Either run with them or move on to the next one as quickly as possible. It is imperative to always question your model (http://www.jorgemoll.com.br/).” His compassion and humanitarian side are seen in his newest business idea “to start a company that meets the needs of people and makes entering a hospital simple, enjoyable and memorable.”

Moll says it was his “passionate belief that we can change our realities and positively impact lives and industries, by simply doing interesting things” that led to the success and growth of his business.
